Constructing personas and user experience storyboards for public-view interfaces
View Full ProjectProblem Statement
Users encounter challenges when interacting with interfaces.
How can we better understand user groups & user interaction through the use of personas & storyboards?
In this project, I explored how users interact with an interface that is accessible to the public, and create personas & storyboards based on my observation and interviews with users.
Specifically, my target interface is a ticketing kiosk located near the gates of every metro station in Taipei, Taiwan.
I closely observed the different steps of the kiosk system that users have to navigate throug in order to purchase a ticket:
By both observing & interviewing users of the ticketing kiosk, I was able to create personas for two groups of users:
I also created a storyboard, documenting the persona motive, challenges faced by persona, and characteristics & goals of the persona for one of my persona, Calm Caroline:
Interview questions are a key to getting insight on user motives, goals, and challenges
In order to improve an interface, we must understand what it's currently lacking, i.e. its key challenges
Since emotions, characteristics & goals play a huge role into how users use & understand interfaces, storyboard allows us to document a generalized user journey for a group of users (or for a persona), and makes it easier to see what challenges these user have in common.
